How to Connect QuickBooks to Google Sheets — and Keep Your Reports Live

How to Connect QuickBooks to Google Sheets — and Keep Your Reports Live

The problem

You want your QuickBooks Online reports — Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet, a report pack for a client — living in Google Sheets, where you can pivot, chart, and customize them. But the built-in path is a one-time export: download a CSV or Excel file, open it, copy it into a sheet, and reformat. The moment a transaction changes in QuickBooks, that sheet is stale, and you do the whole thing again next month.

Why QuickBooks can't do it

QuickBooks Online has no general-purpose live connection to Google Sheets. Its one native option, Spreadsheet Sync, is limited to the Advanced plan (and a few bundled tiers), so most Plus and Essentials users can't use it at all. Everything else is a manual export — and an exported file is a snapshot, disconnected from your books the instant it lands.

Do it in Google Sheets with Retriever

Retriever is the live connection QuickBooks Online leaves out. It links your QuickBooks company to Google Sheets, pulls any report you choose, and keeps it current on a schedule — on any QuickBooks plan.

  1. Connect QuickBooks to Google Sheets

Install Retriever and authorize your QuickBooks Online company. The connection is read-only and takes a minute — no Advanced plan, no CSV, no middleware to maintain.

  2. Choose the report and filters

Pick the report you need — P&L, Balance Sheet, General Ledger, a transaction list — and set the period, accounting method, and any class, location, or customer filters. It lands in your sheet as real, structured data.

  3. Pivot, chart, and customize

Because it's a live sheet, you build your own layout, formulas, and dashboards on top — the parts QuickBooks reports won't let you touch.

  4. Refresh on a schedule

Set Retriever to refresh daily, weekly, or monthly and the numbers update in place — your formatting stays put, and whoever opens the sheet sees today's figures.

Frequently asked questions

Can you connect QuickBooks to Google Sheets?

Yes. Retriever links QuickBooks Online to Google Sheets and pulls your reports in as live data that refreshes on a schedule — no CSV export or copy-paste, and it works on any QuickBooks Online plan.

Does QuickBooks have a built-in Google Sheets integration?

Only on the Advanced plan, via Spreadsheet Sync. On Simple Start, Essentials, and Plus there's no native live connection — the standard route is a manual CSV or Excel export. Retriever adds a live connection on every plan.

How do I send a QuickBooks report to Google Sheets?

Connect Retriever to your QuickBooks company, choose the report and its filters, and it writes the report straight into a Google Sheet. From there you can format it freely, and a scheduled refresh keeps it up to date.

Will the report stay up to date?

Yes — unlike an exported file, a Retriever report is connected to your books. Scheduled refreshes pull the latest numbers into the same sheet, so it never goes stale.
