How to Export Journal Entries from QuickBooks — Into a Live Spreadsheet

The problem

You need your journal entries out of QuickBooks Online — to review adjustments, give your auditor the detail, reconcile against another system, or analyze activity by account. The native route is the Journal report or an Excel export, one download at a time, that's stale as soon as a new entry is posted.

Why QuickBooks can't do it

QuickBooks Online will run a Journal report and export it to Excel, but that file is a fixed snapshot for the period you chose. There's no live feed of journal or general-ledger detail into a spreadsheet, so any ongoing review means re-running and re-exporting the report.
